Kape Skateboards was founded in 2014 by Peter Karacsonyi in Austria – though the brand's true birth took place several years earlier. As a frustrated skater whose wooden decks constantly chipped or snapped, Peter simply built his own press out of scrap metal in his parents' garage and began developing his own boards. What started as a project for friends quickly grew into a real community – a few boards turned into thousands of orders from all over Europe.

In 2019, the most radical decision in Kape's history followed: Peter completely discontinued the sale of classic wooden decks and invested everything into the development of a real alternative to the traditional 7-ply maple deck, which had been the undisputed industry standard since the 70s. Five years and over 1,000 discarded prototypes later, the time had come: in 2024, Kape launched the "Vanguard," a full composite deck made from recycled ocean plastic and fiberglass.

The result is a deck that, according to Kape, is nearly unbreakable while remaining significantly lighter than classic wooden decks and, thanks to its special construction, retains its pop permanently – no more chipping, snapping, or becoming "soggy." This is made possible by an elaborate manufacturing process using injection molding instead of classic pressing methods, developed and patented in their own factory in Salzburg, which now also features its own skatepark directly attached to the production facility.

Kape thus represents one of the most exciting approaches to innovation in skateboarding in recent years – born from genuine skater frustration and years of tinkering rather than a purely corporate business plan.
